Adding Pictures to Your Rustic Room

Once you’ve created the perfect rustic space in your home, you may enjoy the fact that it feels like you have left your home and checked in to a country bed and breakfast or a cabin in the woods. But eventually you may want to make your in-home getaway feel a little more like home. There is an easy way to do this - adding pictures.

You can’t just set up any old pictures, because if they are the wrong pictures and the wrong frames, they are going to detract from your rustic environment instead of adding to it.

A great addition to a rustic room is being able to look back at generations past.
First, you need to go through your old family pictures. You may even have some real old ‘life in the country’ photos that can be restored and put on display.  In addition, you can make your new photos old. Find some good current day photos and have them printed in a sepia finish to make them look like they are a blast from the past, and add them to the family photo collection.

Once you have your pictures selected, you have to decide how to frame them. Anything other than rustic picture frames are going to detract from your goal, so plastic and shiny metal frames are right out!

If you are creating a cozy country setting, consider barnwood picture frames, made of old pieces of barnwood. Some of these come in a natural wood finish, but there are also painted rustic picture frames that can add a little soft country color to the room.

If you have some old ‘life on the ranch’ pictures, a regular rustic picture frame is not enough.  Instead you may want to look at frames that seem as if they have been on the ranch trail, such asbarnwood frames with barbed wire embedded in the edge and other Texas rustic picture frames.

Are wilderness pictures more your style? Your woodsy photo will have a complement in a lodge picture frame, made of twigs or grape vine, or possibly a wooden frame with metal animal or tree accents.

There’s no rush. Add a few photos at a time until you have the look that you want to complete your rustic room.
